Street Committee makes life more comfortable for security guards

The circumstances that security guards at the Aloes Substation were expected to work under were totally unacceptable.  That was until members of Amsterdamhoek Steet Committee decided to take action.

There were no toilets for the guards to use during their long shifts. There was no water to drink and no table. At night there were no lights or facility to make a cup of tea or coffee. Finally, there was long grass around the substation.

A call for community help went out on residents’ groups. Messages of support and donations came flowing in.

Within a couple of days, a portable toilet and toilet paper were delivered.  Solar lights were installed.  Coffee, milk powder and sugar were delivered, and a gas bottle was supplied on loan.

All that remained was the cutting of the grass.  That happened today.

“What a wonderful community,” commented Johnny Cable, who had set the initiative going.

He said he was grateful to the many Bluewater Bay residents and iPatrol who had assisted in the project.
