The Bluewater Bay Surf Lifesaving Club is promising that the annual “Santa Coming Down the River” will be the best in decades,
Club Supporter Chairperson, Delicia Billson, says preparations are well underway to ensure that families that take part in the 2023 event which takes place on 3rd December, will have a memorable day that will be greatly enjoyed by the children.
Delicia says the Club is “going all-out on the decor this year” and will have a number of activities in which the kiddies can participate, so that it is not merely a case of rocking up, picking up the present from Santa and then going straight home.
For parents that are not familiar with the annual event that has been going on for more than 40 years, here are the details:
Parents buy a present for their kiddies (it is requested that not more than R120 is spent on a child in order for there not to be major differences that could disappoint some kids). The present is wrapped and brought to the club by 29 November 2023 latest. Please ensure that the child’s full name is on the wrapping so that Santa can read it easily.
The presents are collected and handed over to Santa’s helpers that will ensure they go into Santa’s bag.
On the day (3rd December) parents and kids should arrive at around 11h00 when all of the children will receive a “goody bag” containing sweets, chips, cold drink, etc.
Parents and the children will head down to the banks of the Swartkops River at about 11h45 to await Santa who will arrive on a large boat that will be rowed by the “elfs”. They will then follow Santa into the Club where they will receive their presents. It is suggested that parents ensure they have cameras or their mobile phones with them to take photos.
After that, the activities for the children will begin.
Clearly an event of this nature does cost quite a bit, so there is a charge of R70 per child that is payable when you deliver the present/s to the Club.
