The normally tranquil Amsterdamhoek Road was a hive of activity this morning as investigations into a hijacking that took place at around 8 o’clock this morning got underway.

The Echo understands that a woman, who had been visiting local residents in Amsterdamhoek Road, drove off in her grey motor vehicle followed by the alleged hijackers who were in a white bakkie. She was then hijacked along the N2 highway and taken towards Motherwell.
The registration numbers have been blanked out by the Echo for legal reasons.
The road, along the banks of the Swartkops River was flooded with police, detectives and security personnel who interviewed residents and put out requests to for any video footage that could be available.
It was not long before Amsterdamhoek Road residents were able to come forward with their video footage which was complemented by footage from a camera that was put up as part of the Neighbourhood Watch/iPatrol initiative.
It has been reported that police and detectives are also currently searching for the hijacked woman and the hijackers in Motherwell.
Further details will be reported as and when received.
