CPF urges BWB residents to establish Street Committees to fight crime

As we head towards the festive season, the Community Police Forum (CPF) has called on residents of Bluewater Bay and Amsterdamhoek to establish Street Committees to help them become proactive against crime.

SAPS and Neighbourhood Watch try to undertake regular patrols of the suburbs, but they cannot be everywhere all of the time, says Jane Jardene, CPF Communications Officer.

Jane describes the Street Committees as being “equivalent to small Neighbourhood Watches” that can have eyes and ears on the suburb on a 24/7/365 basis.

In brief, each Street Committee will appoint a responsible person that will set up its own WhatsApp group and will be added to the CPF’s Street Committee Group.  This will enable members of each group to be alerted if any of their neighbours are in any trouble or facing a crime problem.

Your neighbours will then be able to come to your aid either directly or be on standby to call other responders.

If your Street Committee is registered with CPF, they (CPF) will be able to assist you with matters that cannot be handled alone by your Street Committee by escalating to other nearby Street Committees, Neighbourhood Watch and, if necessary, to SAPS.

As Jane pointed out: “Our motto is ACT – Against Crime Together”.

If you would like more information on how you can participate in the Street Committee programme, contact Jane Jardene on 083 544 4504
