The first of the two Carols by Candlelight events organised by Jenny Rump of the Zwartkops Conservancy took place in Redhouse tonight (Monday 11 December 2023).
Carol singers met at the ZRC at 18h00 and made their way along the Tow Path on the banks of the Swartkops River, stopping along the way to serenade residents with Christmas Carols.
A rowing crew from the Bluewater Bay Surf Lifesaving Club, followed the singers in a brightly lit-up surfboat to add to the festivities. Louis Beyers, a founder member of the lifesaving club said this was the first time in the 54-year history of the club that the surfboat had taken part in the event.
Funds were also raised for the Children’s Feeding Trust.
Bluewater Bay residents will have an opportunity to participate in the carol singing on Wednesday evening. Meet under the N2 bridge on Amsterdamhoek Road at 18h00 and walk along the riverbank towards Tipper’s Creek. The surf boat will be present as well and see how residents have made a special effort to decorate their homes for Christmas.
Music and word-sheets will be supplied but participants are requested to bring their torches and remember to bring some change to contribute towards the Children’s Feeding Trust.
